the byron bay railroad company operate single railmotor. power car 661, along trailer 761, built @ chullora railway workshops in 1949 601/701. in 1973, upgraded, gm detroit diesel 6/71 engines replaced cummins nt855-r2 engines , subsequently renumbered 661/761. withdrawn state rail authority in 1990s, sold lithgow state mine heritage park & railway. after 761 destroyed bushfire, 1960s built trailer 726 acquired replacement. restored service in 2015 , operated few charters on gwabegar line rylstone , main western line tarana. in 2017 converted solar-hybrid operation. conversion completed in october 2017 railmotor moved lithgow road arriving on 3 november 2017.
the railmotor has seating capacity of 100 people. believed world s first solar-powered train.
