description

the ski area located on north side of mammoth mountain in volcanic long valley caldera. overnight guests stay in town of mammoth lakes, california , in neighboring towns such bishop , june lake. june lake s ski area owned mammoth mountain ski area. top of mountain has challenging chutes , groomed mogul runs. there 8 unbound terrain parks. unbound main, adjacent main lodge, highly praised extreme snowboarding , skiing enthusiasts, , 1 of major attractions of ski resort. many of top professionals in sport, including 2006 , 2010 winter olympics gold medalist shaun white, come practice , compete in 18 ft (5.5 m) super pipe , 22 ft (6.7 m) super-duper pipe.


mammoth mountain has 1 of longest ski seasons in north america, averages november june. resort enjoys longer season, in 2005, when opened in october , did not close until 4th of july. 1994–95 season mammoth mountain s longest, on ten months, resort operating october 8 until august 13. 2016-2017 season second snowiest on record, 618 inches (2010-2011 668.5 inches resort record), , stay open until august 6, 2017. january 2017 snowiest month in mammoth history, 246 inches.


mammoth receives average of 400 in (1,020 cm) of snow per season, though during 2010–11 season resort recorded record accumulation of 668.5 in (1,698 cm).
