land

for 2004 presidential election, jibjab created flash movie entitled land, featured animated versions of george w. bush , john kerry - voiced comedian jim meskimen - singing parody of woody guthrie s song land land.


the video considered instant success, being viewed on every continent (including antarctica) international space station, while site listed number 1 on alexa s movers , shakers list. traffic surge forced jibjab s server shut down after 1 day, , clip placed on atomfilms, got more 1 million hits in 24 hours.


after being linked on thousands of websites, video featured several times in printed media , on television, including nbc nightly news, fox news , abc world news tonight. on july 26, 2004, creators appeared on tonight show jay leno. in december 2004, spiridellis brothers named people of year peter jennings.


the richmond organization, music publisher owns copyright guthrie s tune through ludlow music unit, threatened legal action. jibjab responded lawsuit in california federal court, claiming song protected under fair use exemption parodies. jibjab , ludlow music reached settlement after jibjab s attorneys unearthed evidence song had passed public domain in 1973. terms of settlement allowed continued distribution of land.

in october 2004, jibjab followed original animation, in dc, set tune of song dixie. in video, animated versions of george w. bush, dick cheney, john kerry, , john edwards sing hopes upcoming election.

immediately after george w. bush s election victory, jibjab released third video, second term. set tune of ll coming round mountain, animated bush gloats on successful bid second term president, although john kerry would, maybe, have turn become president, someday.

for 2008 presidential election, jibjab released election-themed animation, time campaignin in july of year. set tune of bob dylan s times a-changin , animated versions of bill , hillary clinton, john mccain, barack obama, george bush, , dick cheney sing of presidential hopes. viewers had option of inserting own face of harassed voter.

upon barack obama becoming president, jibjab released s barack obama , portrayed obama superhero. music becomes heavy metal interpretation of when johnny comes marching home, promises fix middle east, defeat taliban, fix schools, fight bear, fix deficit , more.


2012 election

for 2012 presidential election, jibjab did not make election video , instead began focus efforts on e-card business. however, election web app released in october of year.


2016 election

for 2016 presidential election, jibjab did not make election video.
