pre-season

west ham played first ever games in country, on pre-season tour of new zealand. in july 2014 played wellington phoenix @ eden park, auckland on 23 july , sydney fc @ wellington s westpac stadium on 26 july. while in country, squad met huge fan base, including many australia-based supporters group sydney hammers. competed in pre-season 2014 schalke 04 cup in august in germany. other teams competing newcastle united, schalke 04 , málaga.


on 28 june, announced west ham participate in inaugural absolute sports travel cup hosted football league 2 side cambridge united. along hosts joined la liga side espanyol , ukrainian premier league side shakhtar donetsk. fixtures pre-season tournament released on 2 july, west ham face shakhtar donetsk on 19 july , espanyol on 20 july.

matches played on 90 minutes, no added time. if scores level, penalty shoot-out determine winner, gaining 2 points in process. winners within 90 minutes received 3 points. west ham successful spot in first meeting against schalke 04 beaten within 90 minutes la liga side málaga, 2–0.

west ham faced italian serie side sampdoria in final pre-season friendly @ boleyn ground. found 0–1 down approaching half time, mark noble penalty made 1–1. fine individual goal mohamed diamé levelled game @ 2–2 in second half before winner in 90th minute, courtesy of youngster reece burke.
