early life

he eleven years old when father , ruler of state, maharaja krishna chandra bhanj deo died; chandra bhanjadeo succeeded throne on 29 may 1882. however, @ time state ruled under british commissioner till maharaja came of age; formally installed maharaja on 15 august 1892. affairs of state remained in hands of grandmother, dowager maharani of mayurbhanj, until took charge years later.


matrimonial alliances

he first married maharani lakshmi kumari devi, daughter of zamindar of panchkot in bengal, died in 1902. in 1904, married maharani sucharu devi, daughter of maharshi keshab chandra sen. had 2 sons, purna chandra bhanj deo , pratap chandra bhanj deo first wife. purna chandra bhanj deo succeeded him throne, while pratap chandra bhanj deo succeeded elder brother throne after former s death. had son, dhrubendra chandra bhanj deo , 2 daughters of second wife, sucharu devi. dhrubendra chandra bhanj deo became air force pilot , died in action during second world war. elder daughter married maharaja of vizianagram , younger daughter, rani jyoti manjari devi married mahant sarveshwar das, raja bahadur of nandgaon, princely state of erstwhile central provinces , berar.

maharaja died due accident, while on hunting trip, when accidentally injured bullet fired gun of brother-in-law (brother of sucharu devi). severely injured , treated in calcutta, died there of injuries.
