pec established in 1921 in mughalpura, suburban area of lahore, punjab, erstwhile british india mughalpura technical college. in 1923, name changed maclagan engineering college honor sir edward maclagan, governor of punjab, laid foundation stone of building.
in 1932 institution became affiliated university of punjab awarding bachelor s degree in engineering. after partition in 1947, college relocated roorkee in india , renamed east punjab college of engineering. in year 1950 word east dropped. towards end of december 1953, college shifted present campus in chandigarh function under government of punjab. in 1966, formation of union territory of chandigarh, college came under control of government of india through chandigarh administration. in october 2003, government of india recognized college deemed university , thereafter became known punjab engineering college (deemed university). in 2009, board of governors renamed institution pec university of technology.
in 1994 institution adjudged best technical college in india national foundation of engineers. occupies area of 146 acres. 1962, college consisted of 3 departments of civil, electrical , mechanical engineering. thereafter college expanded , offers bachelor of engineering degrees in various specializations.
highway engineering first post-graduate course offered college, commencing in 1957. presently there eleven post-graduate courses leading masters of engineering degree. facilities post-graduate studies exist regular part-time students. college has facilities research work leading award of ph.d. degree in engineering in selected fields of different disciplines. college offers consultancy services in different disciplines.
