diocletian engaged in major military expansion in region, building number of castella, watchtowers, , fortresses along fringe of desert east of via nova. line of defence extended south of damascus wadi al-hasa. region wadi mujib wadi al-hasa contained 4 castella , legionary camp. frontier south of wadi al-hasa, extended red sea @ aila (aqaba), may have been called limes palaestina. in region, ten castella , legionary camp have been identified. term may have referred series of fortifications , roads in northern negev, running rafah on mediterranean dead sea, or region under military control of dux palaestinae, military governor of palaestinian provinces.
