during 1980s, hkfs began support democracy in taiwan , mainland china. in 1981, hong kong standard revealed hkfs had been placed on red list in classified standing committee on pressure groups (scopg) report being pro-communist . in march 1983, hkfs reported shue yan college hong kong independent commission against corruption no prosecution launched. after 1984, hkfs changed supporting communism supporting democratic development.


in february 1989, 4000 students boycotted classes protest against policy of hong kong education department. during tiananmen square protests of 1989, hkfs took part in china-wide demonstrations , strikes. on 20 may, when tropical cyclone signal number 8 hoisted, thousands of students took part in massive demonstration. after 4 june massacre, of hkfs represented university students stopped attending classes. in 1991, there protests (said police illegal) support dissident, wang dan.
