little known life of clara peeters. agreed scholars work points being native of antwerp. city of antwerp s archives hold record of clara peeters, daughter of jean (jan) peeters, baptized on 15 may 1594 in church of st. walburga in antwerp. second document indicates marriage between clara peeters , henricus joosen on 31 may 1639, in same church. however, both clara , peeters common names in antwerp. baptism in 1594 imply 1607-dated paintings done when 12 or 13. scholars doubt works have been done 1 young , have posited born in 1580s.
