woodstock served woodstock school district. woodstock elementary school (pre-kindergarten through 4) , woodstock middle school (5-8) serve woodstock. dr. francis baran superintendent. woodstock elementary school serves children in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. enrollment exceeded 500 of 2006. woodstock middle school, acquired in 1996, has enrollment of more 400 in grades 5-8.


the town has independent new england academy (a special public / private school governed 30-member board of trustees) called woodstock academy, , 1 private school (the hyde schools).

woodstock academy, new england academy corporate school (there 2 others in state; norwich free academy , gilbert school) , governed 30-member board of trustees, located in woodstock. founded in 1801 new england academy, woodstock academy briefly closed twice in 19th century, , second time revived local philanthropist , academy graduate henry c. bowen. after bowen s death, family set endowment fund keep school running. in 1915 became designated town of woodstock s public high school. in 1932 eastford, nearby community, designated town high school. 1915 until 2004 town of woodstock had officially designated academy public high school. since town s board of education , academy trustees have been unable come agreement, although woodstock continues send students academy high school.


today school serves towns of woodstock, eastford, pomfret, union, canterbury, , brooklyn student population of on 1100. school described independent not controlled of municipalities serves or regional high school board.


presently woodstock board of education in process of negotiating new contract school, negotiations have been @ impasse these last 2 years woodstock board of education has been trying more financial control on woodstock academy, school is, of 2009, administered oversight state of connecticut.
