diver training programme
diving

bsac has 5 diver qualifications (known grades). these are:



ocean diver - basic skills, non-decompression diving (depth limit 20 m)
sports diver - rescue, navigation, nitrox , decompression diving (depth limit 20 m after qualification, can increased progressively 35 m post-qualification)
dive leader - dive leading, dive planning & management, , rescue management (depth can increased progressively 50 m post-qualification)
advanced diver - trained diver capable of leading group of divers in normal club activities
first class diver - trained lead group of dives carrying out project. nationally examined two-day practical test

instructing

bsac has 8 instructor grades:



assistant diving instructor - trained unqualified. must supervised when instructing
theory instructor - qualified instruct unsupervised in classroom
assistant open water instructor - qualified teach open water under supervision
practical instructor - qualified instruct unsupervised in open water
open water instructor - qualified supervise other instructors in classroom , open water training
advanced instructor - trained teach advanced skills, such boat based skills , group diving techniques
instructor trainer - qualified staff instructor events
national instructor - leads instructor training courses , bsac national exams

grades no longer awarded

the following grades no longer awarded may still encountered:



novice - diver has completed extensive sheltered-water (i.e. pool) training of bsac syllabus of time, has not yet dived in open water.
novice ii - novice diver has completed 2 open-water assessment dives.

the distinction between novice , novice ii practical reasons difference between hiring pool , travelling coast. novice diver complete 2 open-water dives possible, if not possible straight away (perhaps on winter) @ least have specific grade within club. lengthy , club-oriented novice syllabus replaced club diver , ocean diver syllabuses in late 1990s. (however, argue novice description usefully accurate , aided diver safety because nobody such qualification attempt dives beyond capabilities.)



club diver - more or less same ocean diver; 2 operated in parallel ocean diver awarded @ schools , club diver @ clubs.
club instructor - instructor grade junior open water instructor, allowing holder instruct practical , theory lessons without supervision.
third class diver - entry-level grade prior splitting of syllabus during mid-1980s create novice , sports diver grades. divers held grade @ time awarded sports diver grade.
second class diver - immediate grade prior splitting of syllabus during mid-1980s create dive leader , advanced diver grades. divers held grade @ time awarded advanced diver grade.

the bsac obtained cen certification euf certification body in 2007 , re-certified in 2012 following scuba diver grades:



ocean diver - en 14153-2/iso 24801-2 - autonomous diver
dive leader - en 14153-3/iso 24801-3 - dive leader
open water instructor - en 14413-2/iso 24802-2 - instructor level 2
sports diver - iso 11107 – ‘nitrox diving’
gas blender - iso/dis 13293 gas blender
