preparatory works new bridge began in september 2011 works beginning @ southern end of m90 build northern approach roads. 149 segments of bridge deck, each of 12 metres (39 ft) long , 40 metres (130 ft) wide, constructed in china , spain, delivered sea in october 2013. approach steel bridge sections manufactured cleveland bridge uk in darlington.
the towers reached 160 metres (525 ft) in height in august 2015, making uk s tallest bridge. completed towers stand @ 207 metres (679 ft).
on 28 april 2016, 1 construction worker killed , injured in accident involving crane. work on bridge halted allow investigation take place.
the bridge due completed december 2016, date put may 2017 due weather delays slowing construction, 25 days lost due high winds during april , may 2016. additional delay announced in march 2017 again due weather (more specifically, high winds) , estimation period of 6 weeks in july / august 2017 proposed.
the bridge opened on 30 august 2017 and
formally opened queen on 4 september 2017.
