from may through october in florida, sea turtles come ashore nest.


the island bird sanctuary. there pelicans, multiple types of cranes, herons, feral parrots, sandpipers, osprey, hawks, vultures, seagulls, crows, , nesting pair of bald eagles. bottlenose dolphins in intracoastal waterway, gulf, , bimini bay.


there roseate spoonbills, snowy egrets, , wood storks. marine animals include redfish, snapper, mackerel, black drum, snook, trout, , amberjack.


adjacent islands

adjacent anna maria island s bayside island of key royale, formerly known school key. uninhabited until 1960, when bridge built joining holmes beach section of anna maria island , development began. included in city limits of holmes beach. longboat key lies @ southern edge of island, connected gulf drive drawbridge. east of drawbridge lies jewfish key.


municipalities

anna maria island today divided 3 cities of anna maria in north, holmes beach in middle, , bradenton beach in south. in 2005 united states census bureau estimated combined population of 3 cities @ approximately 8,500.
