although band vital signs began in 1986 in rawalpindi keyboardist rohail hyatt , bassist shahzad hasan (shahi), not until later jamshed, young engineering student uet lahore, joined them lead singer. began performing in different parts of country after having secured place in underground music industry in islamabad , lahore. in live concert in islamabad, band got noticed , approached music officials of ptv, , record deal awarded rana kanwal, student of national academy of performing arts. kanwal given assignment in wanted make music video , wanted make 1 of music band. band moved islamabad , began working on first album kanwal, then-known chehra (lit. face). according hyatt, song created chehra. first song wrote entity , part of our first album. during time, band caught attention of record producer , broadcaster shoaib mansoor taught @ national academy of performing arts. mansoor became acquainted band , worked on first album, spearheading writing of patriotic song.

finally, first album, vital signs 1, released nationwide , aired on ptv. debut hit singles, dil dil pakistan , tum mil gaye , released on 14 august 1987, gave them national fame , prominence. both songs big commercial hits , garnered high critical acclaim. songs in first album instant sleeper hit , gained huge nationwide success, shocked band. in interview given ptv, jamshed said not turn him professional musician. jamshed maintained plans gain degree in engineering work pakistan air force, didn t want have music other treat hobby. in 1990, jamshed graduated engineering degree, , worked in air force civil contractor short time before resigning air force.

however, rohail , shahzad managed convince him otherwise. after string of chart-topping songs , albums, band split in 1998 , jamshed began solo career, achieving increasing commercial success. first album contained many hit songs , band approached several international companies write songs , advertise products pakistani public. success lifted underground rock music industry national level, , credited boosting pakistani music industry. in 1991, band released second album, vital signs 2, produced emi studios in pakistan. although, second album not successful expected, band made first international tour in united states.

in 1993, band got shoaib mansoor once again , released third album, aitebar. around same time, jamshed signed first (and only) acting contract ptv s television miniseries, dhundle raste. in 1995, band released fourth , last album, hum tum. 1996, various issues , difficulties between members of band began surface in media. after release of last single, maula, shahzad hasan departed after taking computer engineering job ibm. hyatt formed recording company; coke studio later emerge successful enterprise.

solo career

jamshed released first solo album, junaid of vital signs in 1994. album s name later changed tumhara aur mera naam record producers. after departing vital signs in 1998, jamshed released second solo album, rah par (lit. on way.) in 1999. second solo album, rah par went on become 1 of best selling albums of 1999. album included several singles became popular , ultimate sleeper hits. songs written jamshed , majority of such songs as, rah par , na tu ayegi , aankhon ko aankhon ney , o sanama , ultimate success , commercial hits of time. in 2000, jamshed released third album, best of junaid jamshed, contained remixes of of hit singles of vital signs era, though captured mix success. fourth , last solo album, dil ki baat, released in 2001, became highly successful in country , gained lot of public , media attention.

in 2003, bbc world service conducted poll choose popular songs. around 7,000 songs selected on world. according bbc, people 155 countries/territories voted in poll. dil dil pakistan ranked third among top 10 songs.

drift music

as 1999, media began speculating jamshed s drift music after vital signs faded away. speculations died after jamshed released solo albums , continued world tours. after 2001, jamshed disappeared public eye , avoided media attention. last 2 albums did not in market , failed positive response country s music critics. former bandmates, shahi , hyatt, saw him struggling negotiate transition 1 world another. became distant hyatt, continued work on producing music. struggled financially after leaving vital signs band, , shoaib mansoor came him financially after giving him role in gulls & guys television show.

after 9/11 attacks in united states, hyatt , jamshed s tours in west struggled lot of questions westerners country s culture, terrorism, , music. upon returning, jamshed filed bankruptcy in court , made attempt resume career in engineering after applying @ various companies. theories regarding jamshed began arise in media, therefore media outlets hired paparazzi follow jamshed. reported jamshed had distanced himself music , had been praying 5 times day regularly @ nearby mosque. finally, jamshed had been out of practice engineering career 20 years, announced open fashion-designing company close friend of his. in 2004, jamshed officially renounced music after announcing had devoted life islam. jamshed left engineering and, supplement income, opened clothing store j. , selling khaadis (a form of kurta-shalwar).

in 2007, in interview in chowk magazine, mansoor admitted badly affected when jamshed turned away music:

mansoor directed , wrote script of successful film khuda kay liye released in 2007. mansoor said film inspired jamshed s life, , offered him lead role in place of shaan shahid. when offered role, jamshed maintained shave beard film , role jamshed written mansoor. jamshed later refused part of film , mansoor maintained that: responses 1 convinced people jamshed not future, , islamist experience phase.
