westerland today has 30 listed historic buildings , 150 considered of special historic or architectural value. these include kurhaus 1897, housing municipal administration , casino.
westerland features numerous sculptures, e.g. in pedestrian zone such wilhelmine (wilhelmsstrasse) or sturmbläser , europa on promenade. near train station reisende riesen im wind (by martin wolke (de)) created in 2001. westerländer roland (de), used stand in front of old town hall, in storage 1964 1993, since has stood in centre of roundabout.

st. christophorus (de), roman catholic church, built in 1997-99 replace previous structure dating 1957. prior that, herz-jesu-kapelle (built in 1896) had stood in location. nearby heimatstätte für heimatlose (de), small cemetery victims of shipwrecks washed ashore between 1855 , 1905.
sylter welle opened in 1993 spa , wellness centre, indoor pool , sauna. sylt aquarium (de) small aquarium in south of westerland.
