biography
formation (1993)

theatre of tragedy founded on 2 october 1993 vocalist raymond istván rohonyi, guitarists pål bjåstad , tommy lindal. drummer hein frode hansen had quit former band phobia , started looking new musical project play in. friend of told hein band called suffering grief looking new drummer, , after contacting them, joined band. @ time, suffering grief composed of vocalist raymond istván rohonyi , guitarists pål bjåstad , tommy lindal. no bassist had joined band yet, eirik t. saltrø had agreed play them in live concerts.

after finding rehearsal place, band decided work upon couple of piano arrangements composed lorentz aspen. vocals, @ time, entirely composed of raw death grunts.

after composing first song, lament of perishing roses , band changed name la reine noir , theatre of tragedy. subsequently invited singer liv kristine espenæs female vocals 1 song, invited join band permanently.

first 5 albums (1994–2002)

liv kristine lead singer of theatre of tragedy formation in 1993 2003.

in 1994, first studio demo recorded, , in 1995, debut album theatre of tragedy released, followed velvet darkness fear in 1996 , rose dead ep in 1997, contained unreleased material velvet darkness fear. arguably, band reached apogee of career in 1998, release of critically acclaimed album aégis.

released in 2000, musique massive departure gothic metal sound theatre of tragedy had developed on previous 3 albums. heavy guitars , modern english lyrics replaced electropop , industrial-influenced metal. met mixed reception, , while older fans understandably shocked new direction of band, did gain them number of new fans.

with 2002 s assembly, band continued along same musical path on previous album. seen more refined , confident electropop record predecessor. first album feature long-time session guitarist, vegard k. thorsen, full member of band.

departure of liv kristine , storm (2003–2007)

in august 2003, band declared in official statement on website liv kristine removed band s line-up due musical differences not bridged .

female singer nell sigland (from crest) joined theatre of tragedy on following year. in winter 2004/2005, band performed short concert tour (together pain, sirenia, , tiamat) sigland singing.

the band released sixth studio album storm on 24 march 2006, , european tour followed, gothminister supporting act. album s title song released single on 24 february 2006. while still keeping on industrial , electronic roots of last 2 albums, album showed return of sounds developed in first albums.

forever world (2008–2009)

on 2 october 2008, theatre of tragedy celebrated 15th anniversary. in december 2008 band posted snippet of new track frozen, expected on new album, on myspace music page:

time updates. things moving forward next album. usual theatre machinery there many things [sic] take consideration when doing stuff , forced change collaborators production of album, , postpone recordings. fear not heavy responsibility has been entrusted alexander møklebust (zeromancer, seigmen, gåte, monomen, delaware etc) , tot crew enter room 13 in may , june recordings , general mayhem! estimated release afm end of september. rumor has there vinyl version diehard fans. keep posted.

in june 2009 saw band reveal forever world title of new album. 7th album released in europe on 21 september 2009, band making step towards earlier sound of aégis. special tour edition of forever world issued on 12 march 2010. tour edition contained bonus cd known addenda ep, contains song reworkings , unreleased tracks.

metal mind productions issued press release in july stating were, co-operation of band, re-releasing musique , assembly. both albums have been remastered , backed bonus tracks. new liner notes , artwork said part of package. each album limited 2000 numbered copies.

breakup , aftermath (2010–present)

on 1 march 2010, theatre of tragedy issued statement informing fans of decision split on 2 october 2010. statement cited personal desires spend more time family , inability juggle everyday working lives rock , roll lifestyle. on 12 march, theatre of tragedy kicked off farewell tour, forever world tour . norwegian symphonic goth metal band angels fall opened them on european part of tour. in september, fans helped band secure funds finish first , last dvd making donations when label pulled out of funding production. result last curtain call, concert film last show on 2 october 2010 in hometown stavanger.

on 5 july 2013, band s first 3 albums re-released , remastered.

in december 2015, liv kristine did tour across germany, belgium, russia, poland, netherlands, , united kingdom, own solo project. performed songs solo project , theatre of tragedy in solo concerts. moreover, raymond istván rohonyi joined on tour. played @ metal female voices fest xiii on 23 october 2016 alongside raymond. played few songs of theatre of tragedy did in december 2015. band members have stated, however, there no plans theatre of tragedy reunion, explaining doors reunion original lineup. no 1 has been approached or not approached.
