History Buena Vista, Oregon
buena vista named in 1850 reason b. hall, settled on donation land claim there in 1847. of hall s relatives had participated in battle of buena vista during mexican–american war. same time named community, hall started halls ferry across willamette. ferry later became known buena vista ferry, still in operation today. later 1 of hall s sons, b.f. hall, operated halls ferry north of independence.
buena vista once home of pottery factory shipped wares on oregon via willamette river. 1 of earliest settlements in oregon, once had greater population because of pottery industry, being important hops-growing area. buena vista had saloons, hotel, school, church, i.o.o.f. hall , store. town later went decline, because railroad bypassed buena vista , instead routed through independence. today, of principal buildings gone , community considered ghost town authors of ghost town guidebooks, although local residents tend disagree. buena vista formerly had post office same name. post office ran 1866 1935.
