puypéroux abbey (11th century) founded before 925 according tradition saint gilles; church being rebuilt @ latest in middle of 11th century due to:



the small embellishments in walls of nave
the decoration of imposts in part
the imposts on side , on apse

all reminiscent of same era of primitive romanesque architecture.


the transept, little later period, contains archaic sculptures of great archaeological value. facade rebuilt in 12th century, around year 1130. has octagonal dome , pentagonal choir original font.

the tomb of saint gilles located in second bay of church of puypéroux.
the puypéroux fountain place of processions during drought.

the church of saint-martial of aignes: there no documentation of date of old church. nave, in poor condition, repaired in 1838 , 1879. bases of columns, curved imposts, , method of construction suggest date oldest parts of last quarter of 12th century. remains of funeral litter visible on north wall of nave.

in north, straddling communes of aignes , chadurie, landes de bois rond classified natural zone of ecological interest fauna , flora (znieff) of type i.


many types of wildlife can seen: nesting birds such hen harrier, nightjar, dartford warbler , common grasshopper warbler; amphibians such yellow-bellied toad, tree frog, marbled newt , natterjack toad; plants such long leaf oats , bicolor phalangère.


the valley of tude , valley of arce classified natural zones of ecological interest fauna , flora of type ii under french regulations, , zones of natura 2000 european point of view. characterized presence of european mink, endangered species.
