slocan city in 1920
the townsite staked @ lower end of slocan lake in 1892 following massive silver strikes nearby. site conveniently close 3 principal ore producing areas. 1900, there 12 hotels in slocan; 1920 there three. slocan became city in june 1901 , reverted village status in june 1958.
during 1890s, slocan city bustling, boisterous, boomtown filled hotels, saloons, pack teams, rail cars filled ore, , miners in pursuit of ever elusive mother lode.
during world war ii, slocan had 1 of japanese canadian internment camps called bay farm in british columbia. among interned @ slocan camp celebrity scientist david suzuki, , author joy kogawa. other internment camps in area @ lemon creek, south of slocan, , @ new denver.
