photos of heavily camouflaged genesis coupe prototype appeared on internet may 2007, fueling anticipation , speculation. spy photos suggested hyundai s new coupe rear-wheel drive, pictures of engine bay showed longitudinal engine orientation typical of front-engine, rear-drive vehicles. pictures showed four-cylinder engine heat-wrapped turbocharger. speculation on potential engines new coupe ranged turbocharged four-cylinder pictured tau v8 hyundai had developed luxury-oriented genesis.

shortly before 2007 los angeles international auto show, more photos leaked of uncovered silver genesis coupe next silver ford mustang, presumed genesis coupe s target competitor.

the production genesis coupe unveiled in 2008 new york international auto show, showcasing red , silver model. unveiling accompanied demonstration of coupe s abilities powerslides , burnouts. north american models went on sale in spring of 2009 2010 model.

trim levels

genesis coupe trims based around 2 engine choices. trim levels include: 2.0t base, 2.0t r-spec, 2.0t premium, 2.0t track (2010 only) (gt in canada), 3.8 base (2010), 3.8 r-spec (2011+), 3.8 grand touring, , 3.8 track (gt in canada).

base models start keyless entry, steering wheel audio controls, bluetooth hands-free, tire pressure monitoring system, cruise control, usb/ipod + aux input, electronic stability control, abs, electronic brake force distribution, 18-inch wheels, , strut bar. 2.0t base used 6 speed manual transmission or 5 speed automatic while 3.8 base used 6 speed manual or automatic transmission. 3.8 base (only 2010) adds black leather interior , light-up genesis door sill plates.

the 2.0t premium , 3.8 grand touring add touch screen infotainment system navigation, keyless entry push-button start, power adjustable driver seat, heated front seats, leather interior, 360 watt 10 speaker system, automatic headlights, sunroof/moonroof, , electrochromic dimming mirror compass. 3.8 grand touring model brown leather instead of black , ultrasonic rear parking sensors. 3.8 grand touring receives fog lights.

for enthusiasts, r-spec models come 19-inch wheels, brembo brakes, torsen limited slip differential, stiffer suspension, summer-only bridgestone potenza re050a tires, , factory supplied front camber bolts (need installed). r-spec models lose premium / grand touring features weight reduction: bluetooth hands-free, automatic headlights, cruise control, trip computer, chrome interior accents, steering wheel audio controls, , come 6 speed manual transmission. genesis coupe r-spec trims available base price $3,000 less track models.

the track trims combine enthusiast r-spec features premium / grand touring features. in addition, trims further add hid headlights, fog lights, , rear spoiler.

regional differences

while genesis coupe released in north america same korean version, suspension setup stiffer according american demographic.

hyundai canada offers proximity key v6 models, push button start or side-mirror marker lights on 3.8l models , no spoiler on either 2.0t or 3.8l v6. (us track models trims equipped spoilers). in fall of 2009, hyundai began genesis production navigation systems.

gogogear.com racing started racing genesis coupe in 2012 in united states touring car championship , won championship in 2014 in 3.8 liter v6 genesis coupe. became first team win road racing championship ever in hyundai in usa. in 2015, team finished second in championship.

in july 2009, millen , genesis coupe set new record two-wheel drive production-based cars @ pikes peak.
