the flfrd consists of eleven stations, broken 3 battalions. each shift has division chief assigned citywide operational commanding officer. apparatus naming , numbering reflects agreed upon terminology used fire departments within broward county, florida part of following broward county uniform station numbering system.
special operations
in addition standard response fire , emergency medical needs cities serve, department provides many additional specialized response services citizens. these services managed department s special operations command responsible training , management of these specialized teams.
aircraft rescue firefighting
the department responsible providing aircraft rescue firefighting (arff) services fort lauderdale executive airport. department staffing 1 airport crash truck, named truck 53, 2 personnel @ times though airport not required provide these services under faa regulations, department provide additional margin of safety. department has responded many crashes both on , off airport property since airport has been in operation.
swat medics
fort lauderdale 1 of several departments in south florida provides special weapons , tactics (swat) medics. swat medic unit founded in october 2000 , consists of 8 fire rescue department paramedics assigned fort lauderdale police department swat team. swat medics respond incident involving swat team. these specialized medics equipped , trained provide emergency medical care in tactical environment delivery of emergency medical care injured civilians , police officers delayed due active tactical situation.
urban search , rescue
several members of fort lauderdale fire-rescue department participate in urban search , rescue florida task force 2 team based out of miami, florida. members of department have deployed national , international deployments including september 11th disaster in new york city, hurricane katrina, , haiti earthquake.
technical rescue
flfrd maintains technical rescue team responds fire station 47. team responsible special rescue situations such high-angle , specialized rope rescues, trench rescue, heavy entrapments, , structural collapse rescues. team responds these specialized rescues both within city limits , assist other departments throughout county , state when needed. team houses live victim search , rescue dog in county considered member of department. although fema asset canine utilized department. unlike usar team, federal resource on-call deploy major disasters, technical rescue team handling smaller local incidents, or initial operations major disasters.
hazardous materials response team
the fort lauderdale fire-rescue department 1 of first agencies in county respond specialized team hazardous materials, doing since 1979. department maintains team in station 88, 1 of 4 such teams throughout county available respond county-wide.
marine rescue
fort lauderdale fire-rescue provides fireboat within broward county, florida. 5 personnel assigned fire station 49 responsible providing both dive rescue services , shipboard firefighting station. respond countywide provide assistance through many waterways , canals of intracoastal waterway passes through city.
