as there no official estimate of total of filipino refugees in indonesia, exact population unknown. recent findings in 2014 found there @ least 544 filipino refugees (mostly bajau community) taking shelter in derawan island, berau regency, east kalimantan. believed presence have began since 2010 of refugees claiming malaysian citizen, although found special document released malaysian government stating not citizen of country during identity check-up indonesian authorities. responding report, indonesian president joko widodo ordering them sent country in philippines immediately, although still unknown whether process of deportation have began. nunukan regency in north kalimantan reportedly saw large filipino refugees presence in 2017.
