in 2014, hkfs, led alex chow , lester shum, participating organisation in umbrella movement. movement demanded genuine democracy in future chief executive elections. admiralty, causeway bay , mong kok occupied suffragists 2 months.


some democratic activists criticised hkfs failing lead movement. in 2015, 5 of member organisations held disaffiliation referenda. 4 passed, reducing number of member organisations 8 four. results follows:




amidst push localism in hong kong, hkfs was, first time, absent victoria park candlelight vigil commemorating 1989 tiananmen massacre.
