many woody plants have distinct short shoots , long shoots. in angiosperms, short shoots, called spur shoots or fruit spurs, produce majority of flowers , fruit. similar pattern occurs in conifers , in ginkgo, although short shoots of genera such picea small can mistaken part of leaf have produced.
