after ping s official announcement on september 1, 2010, karsten manufacturing, parent company of ping, golfing equipment manufacturer, released statement regarding name of apple s social network, stating karsten manufacturing had entered agreement apple under apple use ping trademark in connection itunes application. name has caused minor confusion term ping , being used users of ping, commonly used unrelated computer term used in conjunction ping networking utility.
