peeters first known painting signed , dated 1607; technical polish , compositional sophistication of painting , of other works indicate skill of highly trained artist. work suggests training in antwerp, city artists stressed detail , careful finish in painting.


no record of apprenticeship has been found. artists apprentices included in records of local guild of saint luke. however, name not found in of guild s records in antwerp nor of amsterdam, haarlem, delft, hague or middelburg. scholars speculate may have been daughter of painter, , not required included in apprenticeship records. or, perhaps answer may in fact antwerp guild records lost years 1607 1628, , of names known through other documents.


many scholars believe work closely resembles of osias beert , suppose relationship between two. suggest pupil. beert began career still-life painter when became master of antwerp guild in 1602. none of works dated, although of copper plates stamped dates 1606 1609 supplier. relationship must remain speculative. has been linked antwerp artists hans van essen , jan van der beeck. jan bruegel elder has been suggested possible teacher.


although not in records, @ least 1 painting of peeters bears stamp of antwerp guild on back, indicating indeed member, or @ least working on panels made members of antwerp guild.
