100 knights

initially, 4 of ecclesiastic members had cardinals, whilst other 4 had archbishops or prelates. later relaxed 8 had either cardinals, archbishops or prelates.


members of order had roman catholic , had able demonstrate 3 degrees of nobility. minimum age members 35, although there exceptions:



children of king members birth, weren t received order until 12.
princes of blood admitted order age of 16
foreign royalty admitted order age of 25

all knights of order members of order of saint michael. such, known chevalier des ordres du roi (i.e. knights of royal orders ), instead of more lengthy chevalier de saint-michel et chevalier du saint-esprit (i.e. knight of saint michael , knight of holy spirit ).
