early work

during studies in schools , colleges, had proved flair acting in dramas of shakespearean genre. later on, kunchacko of udaya studios, alleppey, identified talent , gave him role act in film visappinte vili in acted villain against evergreen hero, prem nazir. happened first film in malayalam in villain fights hero without dupe , role performed aplomb sasikumar. subsequently, in addition acting in several films produced udaya studios worked assistant director of kunchacko in films. kunchacko identified sasikumar had in repertoire necessary talent , skills required director of movies.

later on, joined merryland studios, owned veteran director-producer p. subramaniam. under tutelage sasikumar transformed great director. while in merryland worked many renowned actors of time, including t. k. balachandran, prem nazir , thikkurissi sukumaran nair. worked associate director p. subramaniam in addition acting in roles himself. sasikumar still considers p.subramanyam fatherly icon had showered upon him fatherly affection , regards during tenure @ merryland. first independent film directed sasikumar documentary,namely onakkazhcha fertilisers , chemicals travancore limited (fact) regarding use , effectiveness of fertilizers in agriculture.

following advice of friend prem nazir, sasikumar went chennai in 1960s. directed thommante makkal , porter kunjali thomas pictures in 1965. directed, along p. a. thomas, movie kudumbini (1964) thomas pictures, received certificate of merit @ annual national film awards. subsequently, directed art film, kavalam chundan, flop. result,a dejected sasikumar decided give film direction , return kerala join father s oil mill business. prem nazir encouraged him return chennai directed commercial film jeevitha yaathra became major hit. after this, sasikumar understood couldn t make art film kavalam chundan producers money. after change of style art commercial films never looked back.

sasikumar went on direct long list of films, of succeeded @ box office. fondly called hitmaker malayalam film fraternity. along prem nazir helped many producers had lost land , jewellery through movie production. sasikumar holds record maximum number of hit films made in malayalam. eighty-four films directed had prem nazir hero (a world record) , in 1977 directed 15 films fared @ box office (world record ). sathyan, prem nazir, adoor bhasi, s. p. pillai, madhu, jose prakash, sheela, vijayasree, k.r.vijaya, sharada, vidhubala, lakshmi, sreelatha, jayabharathi, sreevidya, nanditha bose, unni mary, kamal hassan, sukumaran, soman, ravikumar, jayan, vincent, sobhana, shankar, mammootty , mohanlal acted in films. kaviyoor ponnamma, had acted in role of mother in old movie thommante makkal had story christian background acted in same movie, remade hindu background , retitled swanthamevide banthamevide taking same role after 25 years. years later, sasikumar remade same movie under title raja vazhcha . sasikumar introduced new sophisticated villain malayalam film world in form of silver head enacted jose prakash in 1 of old films. during long career in films has directed more 140 films in malayalam , 1 film in tamil. trio consisting of sasikumar, sreekumaran thampy , m.k arjunan rage of period 1969–1980.
