the blue angels officially recommissioned on 25 october 1951, , reported nas corpus christi, texas. lt. cdr. voris again tasked assembling team (he first of 2 commanding officers lead them twice). in 1953 team traded sky train curtiss r5c commando.


in august 1953, blues leader lcdr ray hawkins became first naval aviator survive ejection @ supersonic speeds when f9f-6 became uncontrollable on cross-country flight.


the first marine corps pilot, capt chuck hiett, joined team , relocated current home of nas pensacola in winter of 1954. here progressed swept-wing grumman f9f-8 cougar.



grumman f11f-1 tiger, 1957–69


in september 1956, team added sixth aircraft flight demonstration in opposing solo position, , gave first performance outside united states @ international air exposition in toronto, ontario, canada. upgraded logistics aircraft douglas r5d skymaster.


in january 1957, team left winter training facility @ naval air facility el centro, california ten-year period. next ten years, team winter @ nas key west, florida. 1957 show season, blue angels transitioned supersonic grumman f11f-1 tiger, first flying short-nosed, , long-nosed versions. first six-plane delta maneuvers added in 1958 season.
