in december 2003, announced gavarnie holding, llc purchase aloha islandair aloha airgroup, making island air hawaii s third largest independent airline. purchase completed on may 11, 2004, , company renamed hawaii island air, inc., although airline continued business island air . after purchase, island air expanded business, acquiring more aircraft , flying new routes.


in may 2008, island air awarded essential air service routes kansas city international airport joplin, missouri, grand island, nebraska, harrison, arkansas, , hot springs, arkansas did not announce specific starting dates. following month, however, airline withdrew contract after concluding mid-september startup date unrealistic, citing staffing , fuel costs.


on august 17, 2009, island air discontinued service hilo.


in 2012, dash 8 fleet began approach useful cycle life, airline reached out penair of alaska , wet leased single saab 340 turboprop aircraft 10 months.


on july 19, 2012, island air revealed new business model included complete image , brand overhaul. coincided arrival of airline s new atr fleet of turboprop aircraft in august. airline unveiled new website go alongside new brand , image launch.


on october 4, 2012, les murashige appointed company s new president , ceo replacing lesley kaneshiro.
