dürer s godfather anton koberger, left goldsmithing become printer , publisher in year of dürer s birth , became successful publisher in germany, owning twenty-four printing-presses , having many offices in germany , abroad. koberger s famous publication nuremberg chronicle, published in 1493 in german , latin editions. contained unprecedented 1,809 woodcut illustrations (albeit many repeated uses of same block) wolgemut workshop. dürer may have worked on of these, work on project began while wolgemut.
