the 1939 retro hugos presented in 2014 honor 75th anniversary of 1st world science fiction convention.


the convention received 3,587 valid ballots 2014 hugo awards , 1,307 1939 retro hugo awards. both figures record participation members in these awards. more 99% of ballots cast online 16 postal mail 2014 awards , 12 1939 awards. authors mary robinette kowal , rob shearman hosted retro hugo award ceremony.


on march 1, 2014, convention committee announced comedian jonathan ross host of hugo award ceremony; choice met controversy, , directly led farah mendlesohn s decision resign committee. ross subsequently tweeted withdrawing hosting ceremonies. authors geoff ryman , justina robson later named hosts ceremony.
