in february 1915 reid emigrated america @ invitation of clarence h. geist golf professional @ seaview golf club in galloway, new jersey, after outbreak of world war i. later, @ suggestion of dupont family, became golf professional @ wilmington country club, wilmington, delaware. became member of pga of america in 1917 , appointed national pga executive committee vice-president @ large, position held 2 years.


in august 1920 elected vice-president of pga of america , re-elected in 1921. in 1920 , 1921 held office of secretary of southeastern section pga. in 1921 reid obtained u.s. citizenship , in december of year attended founding meeting of philadelphia section pga , member of organising committee. later in 1929 president of michigan section pga 3 years.
