gaudreau entered nhl on same day of receiving of hobey baker award. on aprll 11, 2014, shortly after ceremony, gaudreau , eagles teammate bill arnold signed entry-level contracts calgary flames, drafted arnold in 2010. both made nhl debut in flames final game of 2013–14 season, against vancouver canucks. gaudreau scored flames goal on first shot of first professional game.


2014–15

to begin 2014–15 season, gaudreau earned spot on flames roster continue nhl career. starting off slowly, gaudreau did not record point until sixth game of year. afterwards, however, heated quickly, amassing 12 goals , 30 points through 37 games. scored first career nhl hat-trick against jonathan quick on december 22, 2014, in 4–3 comeback win on los angeles kings, becoming youngest flames player record hat-trick since joe nieuwendyk in 1987–88 season.


gaudreau selected play in 2014–15 nhl star game in columbus, ohio, on january 25, 2015, , participated in skills competition, garnering attention jakub voráček antics during shootout challenge. shootout move, imitated previous move performed ryan johansen (who helped seven-year-old cole vogt, son of columbus blue jackets trainer mike vogt, score goal on corey crawford) went viral. voráček, went after johansen, helped gaudreau score goal in same manner johansen did vogt, making fun of gaudreau s size , youth, small stature in comparison other nhlers lead believe looks child. gaudreau named all-star skills competition rookie team, limited competition portion, promoted all-star game replacement sidney crosby, not play due injury. gaudreau named team toews , recorded 2 assists in game, both on goals scored nashville predators filip forsberg, himself rookie participating in game.


on march 11, 2015, gaudreau scored 50th point of season, becoming first flames rookie reach mark since jarome iginla did in 1996–97. gaudreau finished regular season tied rookie scoring lead mark stone of ottawa senators. gaudreau had 24 goals , led rookies 40 assists, while stone had 26 goals. finalist calder memorial trophy league s best rookie, award went aaron ekblad of florida panthers gaudreau finishing third. named nhl s all-rookie team 2014–15 season.


2015–16

the 2015–16 season banner year gaudreau, sophomore set career highs in goals, assists, , points, en route finishing tied sixth among nhl players in total points scored. second straight year, gaudreau participated in nhl all-star game, 61st in nhl history. gaudreau selected finalist all-star game mvp, honor given controversial , unlikely write-in candidate john scott. however, gaudreau s flames failed live high expectations bestowed upon them after surprisingly successful 2014–15 season, finishing 26th in nhl , missing playoffs sixth time in 7 seasons.


2016–17

gaudreau missed entirety of flames training camp due contract dispute. on october 10, 2016, 2 days before flames season opener, gaudreau signed six-year, $40.5 million contract worth $6.75 million annually. on november 16, 2016, in game against minnesota wild, gaudreau suffered finger fracture. had surgery following day. despite speculation miss 6 weeks of season, gaudreau returned after ten games. gaudreau finished season 61 points in 72 games, leading flames in scoring. gaudreau recorded 2 assists in 4 games during team s first round matchup against anaheim ducks in 2017 stanley cup playoffs.
