Østerlars: frescos


the church s central column decorated frescos or kalkmalerier 1350 showing biblical scenes annunciation through passion, ending day of judgment jesus judges mankind. many of naked figures sent hell, symbolized huge dragon. painted 140 years after church built.


the frescos, had been hidden limewash since reformation, uncovered in 1882. first restored jacob kornerup in 1889, in 1960 g.m. lind. in 2005, national museum of denmark carried out further restoration work.


the pulpit 1595. carved altarpiece c. 1600.
