Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Forrest 1992 North Indian Ocean cyclone season









on november 15, pacific tropical storm forrest crossed malay peninsula , emerged on andaman sea. tracking around subtropical ridge, system gradually turned northward on bay of bengal , attained hurricane strength on november 17. reached peak intensity on november 20 category 4-equivalent cyclone on saffir–simpson hurricane scale winds of 230 km/h (145 mph). imd assessed forrest have attained three-minute sustained winds of 185 km/h (115 mph) , pressure of 952 mbar (hpa; 28.11 inhg). hostile environmental conditions affected cyclone turned abruptly eastward. forrest subsequently made landfall in northwestern myanmar weakening system on november 21 before dissipating next day.


on november 20, forrest reached peak intensity, fears arose across bangladesh repeat of catastrophic april 1991 cyclone take place. result, mass evacuation plans enacted across coastal areas of country, plans relocate 2 million people. ultimately, storm s abrupt eastward turn spared bangladesh of disaster , successful evacuation of 600,000 residents spared countless lives. 2 deaths took place in country , overall damage light.
