licence plate design

the licence plates may have 1 of following designs:

a – white reflective plate, black print

for cars, trucks, buses, etc. taxed , fit drive on public roads. plates of type carry tax stamp; see below. cars in norway have these plates.

b – black plate, yellow print

these vehicles approved , deemed safe never drive on public roads. includes forest tractors, mining plant, off-road snow-mobiles, various transports @ airports , ports, etc. such vehicles tax exempt. vehicles registered on svalbard use these plates, roads privately owned.

c – black plate, white print

rally , other competition cars. vehicle may driven legally on road , training , events if nmf licence , statement local club on training times presented. insurance , road tax has paid, there no import tax on new vehicles.

d – orange plates, black print

military cars, trucks, buses, tanks etc. such vehicles tax-exempt , not carry tax stamp.

orange plates red print military testing plates, 2 or 3 letters(fmu or t-u) fmu= forsvarsmuseet(defence museum), t-u= test og utvikling(test , development).

e – green reflective plate, black print

for cars, vans, small trucks, etc. taxed , fit drive on public roads. vehicles plate not passenger use. can carry 1 row of seats (driver included) , intended craftsmen , courier usage. such cars have lower taxes same model ones plate type a. never have rear seat. may own car green number plates.

f – blue plate, yellow print

these diplomatic corps plates; used on official cars of foreign embassies , consular services. these plates use prefix cd. first 2 digits shows diplomatic mission vehicle belongs to. tax exempt.

g – red plate, white print

dealer plates. these plates assigned car dealerships , used ferrying or test driving. can moved freely car car.

since mid 2015 there new format starting aaa10. format centrally issued.

dealer plates trailers has t suffix.

h – red plate, black print

stickers used ferrying or testing unregistered roadworthy vehicles, prototypes etc. issued on day-to-day basis @ cost of nok 250 per day. date of issue printed right of registration number.

i – orange plate, red print

military test plates, 2 or 3 letters(fmu or t-u) followed 3 number leading zero. fmu= forsvarsmuseet(defence museum) t-u= test og utvikling(test , development)

j – white plates, black print, red margins

export , tourist plates. no letters. left , right red border month/year of expiry written vertically.

other license plates

they not compatible 1 on top:

in 1960 s plate, there letter below special vehicles rutevogn public service vehicle, while leievogn rental vehicles.
u.s. military vehicle plates had top letters type of force , station type, 2 numbers, 1 letter , 4 numbers.
