gun rights supporters have criticized proposal. sportsman s alliance of maine s executive director, david trahan, has stated while background checks sound in theory, difficult implement , enforce, why there has been no national universal background check system. criticized potential involvement of michael bloomberg , other out-of-state gun control groups spending large amounts of money in maine. state senator eric brakey criticized effort back-door attempt establish gun registry.
