the norwegian license plates of all-electric vehicles have prefix el or ek enforce privileges 0 emission vehicles entitled to.


all norwegian licence plates civilian vehicles have prefix of 2 letters, followed sequence of numbers. military licence plates have numbers only. vehicles have five-digit registration numbers between 10000 , 99999. motorcycles, farming equipment , trailers have four-digit registration numbers between 1000 , 9999 used. temporary plates have three-digit registration numbers between 100 , 999. dealer plates have two-digit registration numbers between 10 , 99.

ga: autogas/lpg (liquified petroleum gas) or other gas powered vehicles
hy: hydrogen powered vehicles

ordinary vehicle plates have prefix based on geographic location first registration, , not changed later.



the letters g, i, o , q not used due similarity other letters or numbers; exception cng vehicles such gas buses use ga . m , w not used wider other letters, codes including w assigned. norwegian letters Æ, Ø, , Å not used either. additionally, combinations ns , ss have been omitted because of connotations world war ii.
