the philippine research reactor built under atoms peace nuclear research exchange program of united states. reactor had first criticality in august 26, 1963, built u.s. firm general atomics , 1mw open general-purpose reactor.


the philippine atomic energy commission (paec; name of philippine nuclear research institute) decided convert reactor triga mark iii reactor in 1984. converted reactor achieved criticality in april 1988. had capacity of 3mw , has ability use low-enriched uranium instead of highly enriched uranium. on same year, reactor pool had leak led reactor being shut down. there plans repair reactor collaboration international atomic energy agency such plans abandoned.


in 2005, decided reactor decommissioned.
