a number of people participated in run entered unoccupied land , hid there until legal time of entry lay quick claim of choice homesteads. these people came identified sooners. led hundreds of legal contests arose , decided first @ local land offices , u.s. department of interior. arguments included constituted legal time of entry. while people think settlers entered territory @ legally appointed time known boomers, term refers campaigned opening of lands, led david l. payne.


the university of oklahoma s fight song, boomer sooner , derives these 2 names.
