after destruction of world war ii, in 1946 updating , repairing program launched, while other units remained in countries occupied italy. 17 locomotives ceded yugoslavian railways (class e361) and, in 1958, 4 given czechoslovakia (class e 666.0). inadequate passenger role, e.626 transferred cargo service, apart several commuter trains in areas of italy.


starting 1970s, 14 units sold private railways, while aging e.626 still in service fs (also after complains of trade unions against harsh working conditions of crew) increasingly replaced more modern classes, , demolished. last unit decommissioned e.626.194, used rescue trains, in 1999.


seven units survive today in museums, while 11 refurbished locomotives used historical trains.
