Preparation techniques Solvent impregnated resin

figure 3: sir particles prepared wet impregnation method, dispersed in water. cut-out section shows enlarged segment of sir particle surface.

if wet method used, extractant dissolved in additional solvent prior impregnation. porous particles dispersed in extractant-solvent solution. after soaking particles, excess solvent can either filtered off or evaporated. in first case, extractant-solvent mixture retained within pores. of interest extractants solid @ design conditions when pure. in second case, extractant remain inside pores. figure 3 shows porous particles dispersed in aqueous solution after wet impregnation. cut-out in figure 3 shows enlarge segment of surface of such impregnated particle. additional, albeit not used technique modifier addition method. technique relies on use of extractant/solvent/modifier system. additional modifier supposed enhance penetration of extractant particle pores. solvent subsequently evaporated, leaving extractant , modifier in particle pores.

furthermore, dynamic column method can used. particles contacted solvent until soaked. can done prior or after packing column. packed bed rinsed liquid extractant until inlet , outlet concentrations same. approach particularly interesting when particles packed in column , shall reused sir application.
