shooting sports consist of 3 different disciplines: pistol, rifle , shotgun. each , every 1 of them includes multiple events, varying distance target, position , type of sport gun.
pistol
olympic shooting includes 5 different pistol events: 10 m air pistol men, 10 m air pistol women, 50 m pistol men, 25 m pistol women, 25 m rapid fire pistol men.
for 10 m air pistol events, athletes use air pistols loaded .177/ 4.5 mm calibre pellets. 25 m , 50 m pistol events, athletes use pistol loaded .22/ 5.6 mm calibre shots.
according issf rules changes introduced after 2012 olympic games, 10 m , 50 m pistol finals, 25 m rapid fire pistol men final conducted elimination-style format. 25 m pistol women finals conducted on 2 phases: semi-finals , medal matches. according new rules, pistol finals start 0 , qualification score no longer carried forward final.

the qualification round consists of 60 shots, after top-8 athletes advance semifinal, consisting of 5 series of 5 shots each. athletes have 3 seconds fire each shot, , must lower arm down @ 45° angle before firing each shot. top-2 athletes after semifinal advance gold medal match; 3rd , 4th ranked athletes go bronze medal match.
