in native habitats, r. forrestii flowers between may , july. stem (peduncle) of flower spike hidden leaf sheaths. pale green bracts subtend flowers shorter calyx or equal in length. flowers may purple or yellow.


each flower has typical structure roscoea (see diagrams in article). there tube-shaped outer calyx, flushed pink, 5–13 cm long two- or three-toothed apex. next 3 petals (the corolla) form tube protrudes calyx, 5–13 cm long, terminating in 3 lobes, upright central lobe, 2.5–4 cm long 1.5–2.5 cm wide, dark veins, , 2 narrower side lobes, 2.6–4 cm long 5–10 mm wide. inside petals structures formed 4 sterile stamens (staminodes): 2 lateral staminodes form appear small upright petals, 1.1–2.5 cm long; 2 central staminodes fused @ base form lip or labellum, 3–4.1 cm long 2.1–3 cm wide. labellum bends backwards , split half way 2 lobes.


the single functional stamen has cream anther, 5–8 cm long, 5–9 mm long spurs formed connective tissue between 2 capsules of anther. ovary 1–5 cm long.
