Mechanism Turgor pressure
osmosis process in water flows area low solute concentration, adjacent area higher solute concentration until equilibrium between 2 areas reached. cells surrounded lipid bi-layer cell membrane permits flow of water in , out of cell while limiting flow of solutes. in hypertonic solutions, water flows out of cell decreases cell s volume. when in hypotonic solution, water flows membrane , increases cell s volume. when in isotonic solution, water flows in , out of cell @ equal rate.
turgidity point @ cell s membrane pushes against cell wall, when turgor pressure high. when cell membrane has low turgor pressure flaccid. in plants, shown wilted anatomical structures. more known plasmolysis.
a turgid , flaccid cell
the volume , geometry of cell affects value of turgor pressure, , how can have effect on cell wall s plasticity. studies have shown how smaller cells experience stronger elastic change when compared larger cells. turgor pressure plays key role in plant cell growth cell wall undergoes irreversible expansion due force of turgor pressure structural changes in cell wall alter extensibility.
