cyclonic storm hibaru

an area of convection formed @ low latitude southeast of sri lanka on january 10, located within broad trough , in area of low wind shear. on next few days, convection consolidated elongated circulation became evident. on january 13, imd designated system depression. system organized further , developed rainbands. ridge north caused depression move erratically , remain stationary. imd upgraded system deep depression on january 14, same day jtwc classified tropical cyclone 02b. on next day, imd upgraded further cyclonic storm hibaru, estimating winds of 65 km/h (40 mph), marking unusual occasion such low-latitude storm in january. drifting southward, circulation gradually became exposed convection, indicative of weakening. hibaru degenerated remnant low on january 17.



land depression 01

early on june 27, low pressure area formed on extreme northwestern portion of bay of bengal. after moved ashore near kolkata, , system organized depression on west bengal winds of 45 km/h (30 mph). several days system maintained intensity while moving northwestward, stalling on july 1 3 days on madhya pradesh. later turned northeast , dissipated on uttar pradesh on july 6.


the depression produced widespread rainfall across eastern india. sagar, madhya pradesh recorded 480 mm (19 in) in 24 hours, highest daily total. rains helped cut india s rainfall deficit enhancing monsoon. rains first affected odisha, rivers overflowed , inundated adjacent crop fields. storm stalled on madhya pradesh, produced widespread flooding isolated 129 villages, killing 26 people. on four-day period, 900 mm (35 in) of rain fell across parts of katni district. floods cut off communications, washed away bridge, , damaged many roads.



cyclonic storm pyarr

a tropical depression developed in south china sea on september 12 , moved westward central vietnam on next day. continuing through laos , thailand, system emerged northern andaman sea on september 15. tracked continuously depression thai meteorological department, classified depression imd on september 17 west of myanmar. on next day, system intensified deep depression , later cyclonic storm, whereupon imd named pyarr. first cyclonic storm in month in 7 years. attaining peak winds of 65 km/h (40 mph), storm took unusual track southwest. on september 19, pyarr made landfall northeast of kalingapatnam in andhra pradesh. turned westward , weakened on land, deteriorating remnant low on september 22 on madhya pradesh.


as depression, system produced damaging swells along coastal bangladesh, forcing 12,000 people evacuate. offshore, estimated 9,000 fishermen in 600 vessels caught in storm; 15–20 of these ships capsized 85 people collectively aboard. @ least 16 were known have died. torrential rainfall affected eastern coastal india, daily peak of 490 mm (19 in) in kunavaram. rains caused rivers rise, forcing 36,000 people evacuate after 315 villages affected. floods killed 10,000 cattle , killed 4 people in khammam. pyarr wrecked 482,188 ha (1,191,510 acres) of crop fields. in andhra pradesh, storm damaged or destroyed 12,041 houses, overall damage estimated @ ₹503 million (2005 indian rupees, $11.4 million united states dollars). more 140,000 people forced relocate after godavari , krishna rivers burst banks , caused tremendous flooding. @ least 64 people died across andhra , odisha pradeshes.



deep depression bob 04

a low pressure area formed in western bay of bengal on october 25. had well-defined circulation, helped low wind shear , outflow. imd classified depression on october 26, , later day upgraded deep depression. moving northwestward, system moved ashore near ongole, andhra pradesh on october 28. depression rapidly weakened on land, degenerating remnant low next day.


heavy rainfall affected coastal andhra pradesh, daily peak of 350 mm (14 in) in kavali. in tamil nadu south, chennai recorded 420 mm (17 in) of rainfall. storm brought several days of heavy rainfall southern india, forcing 50,000 people evacuate. low-lying areas of chennai inundated, disrupting travel road, rail, , air, , causing schools close. car washed away, killing 3 people in city. 2 people in chennai electrocuted, , provincial electric board shut off power in heavily flooded areas. rains flooded 194,423 ha (480,430 acres) of crop fields , inundated many rail lines. across andhra pradesh, 1,045 houses collapsed, , rains killed @ least 100 people.



cyclonic storm baaz

an area of convection formed on november 26 in eastern bay of bengal within area of moderate wind shear. shear decreased, convection organized developing circulation. on november 27, jtwc classified system tropical cyclone 07b, , next day, imd classified depression. day, agency upgraded cyclonic storm baaz. time, storm moving steadily westward due ridge north. on november 29, imd estimated peak 3 minute winds of 85 km/h (50 mph). increasing wind shear weakened baaz on december 1, in conjunction storm turning west-northwest. storm deteriorated, , imd downgraded remnant low on december 2, same day jtwc issued final advisory. remnants continued west, crossing indian coast north of pondicherry on december 3.


the precursor storm brought heavy rainfall southern thailand, reaching 417 mm (16.4 in) in ko samui. rains killed 11 people in country , caused ฿400 million (thai baht, $10 million usd) in damage. remnants dropped heavy rainfall in southern india, daily peak of 310 mm (12 in) in tambaram. rains flooded several villages in tamil nadu, killing 11 people.



cyclonic storm fanoos

a low pressure area developed on december 4 in south andaman sea. consisted of circulation increasingly organized convection. system moved west-southwestward through bay of bengal due ridge north, organizing depression 2 days later. day, jtwc classified tropical cyclone 06b. moderate wind shear allowed system strengthen further, , imd classified cyclonic storm fanoos on december 7. later day, agency estimated peak 3 minute winds of 85 km/h (50 mph). 2 days later, jtwc estimated peak 1 minute winds of 110 km/h (70 mph) storm bypassed northern sri lanka. wind shear , proximity land weakened fanoos deep depression on december 10, , shortly after made landfall on eastern tamil nadu near vedaranyam. imd downgraded storm remnant low pressure area later day, although jtwc tracked storm across southern india arabian sea; agency stopped following fanoos on december 12.


the threat of storm necessitated fishermen remain @ port, while 25,000 people evacuated shelters. final landfalling storm of season, fanoos brought heavy rainfall tamil nadu, daily peak of 350 mm (14 in) in ramanathapuram. rains heavily damaged crops across tamil nadu, although damage less expected. fifth storm affect southern india in 6 weeks.



deep depression bob 08

an area of convection formed on december 14 on bay of bengal broad circulation. in area of low wind shear, allowed slow development, , became depression on december 15. ridge north steered system northwest , later west. on december 17, jtwc classified tropical cyclone 07b, same day imd upgraded deep depression peak 3 minute winds of 55 km/h (35 mph). on next day, jtwc estimated peak 1 minute winds of 85 km/h (50 mph). increasing wind shear prevented further development storm turned north, keeping east of sri lanka. approaching trough turned weakening system northeast on december 21, , next day imd downgraded remnant low in central bay of bengal. outskirts of system brushed chennai, city receiving 120 mm (4.7 in) of rainfall, although there no reported damage.

the jtwc tracked short-lived depression in january. system formed southeast of sri lanka on january 7, days before hibaru formed. remained weak drifted northward peak winds of 55 km/h (35 mph). depression dissipated on january 10. in middle of june, area of convection formed along monsoon offshore saurashtra region of western india. on june 21, depression developed winds of 45 km/h (30 mph). moving west-northwest, dissipated on june 22, bringing light rainfall 70 mm (2.8 in) in gujarat. in late july, low pressure area formed in northwest bay of bengal, organizing depression on july 29. system remained stationary offshore west bengal. on july 30, depression intensified deep depression. shortly thereafter, system moved ashore near balasore, odisha. moved west-northwestward on land, dissipating on july 31. depression dropped widespread rainfall, peaking @ 490 mm (19 in) in chandabali. rains swelled rivers , flooded fields, affecting many roadways. 1 person died after wall collapsed.


on september 10, low pressure area formed in northwestern bay of bengal. moving northwest, organized depression on september 12, , after made landfall near paradip, odisha winds of 45 km/h (30 mph). continued through northeastern india, weakening remnant low on uttar pradesh on september 17. depression brought heavy rainfall eastern india, daily peak of 300 mm (12 in) in nabarangpur. across odisha, rains inundated 75,943 ha (187,660 acres) of crop fields, , later killed 6 people after flooding villages in madhya pradesh. low pressure area formed south of gujarat on september 13, developing depression next day. moved northwest @ first before turning east, never attaining wind speeds higher 45 km/h (30 mph). late on september 16, depression struck gujarat north of porbandar , rapidly weakened on land. system brought rainfall , gusty winds killed 13 people.


an area of convection formed on october 1 southeast of india. located in area of moderate wind shear. system moved northeast, developing more convection on circulation. on october 2, jtwc classified tropical cyclone 03b, although imd never issued warnings on system. jtwc estimated peak 1 minute winds of 65 km/h (40 mph). on october 3, storm moved ashore south of kolkata, , dissipated after. heavy rains swamped portions of northern bangladesh causing tremendous flooding destroyed more 100,000 mud-built homes. government officials estimated 1.5 million people rendered homeless. floods damaged 200,000 hectares (500,000 acres) of crops , 1,000 km (620 mi) of roads. @ least 16 people killed while waterborne diseases in aftermath threatened kill dozens more.


a low pressure area formed in western bay of bengal on november 19. moving west-northwest, concentrated depression on next day. on november 22, crossed on sri lanka , later degenerated remnant low on gulf of mannar, never reaching winds beyond 45 km/h (30 mph). remnants brought heavy rainfall tamil nadu, panruti reporting 540 mm (21 in) of precipitation on 72 hours.
