gameplay
the game divided 5 matches consist of one-on-one fights between 2 character cards. players alternate turns until 1 character defeated, move on next pair of characters. game ends when 1 player wins 3 out of 5 matches, or when 1 player cannot draw or discard card deck. there select few cards allow 1 win game after performing set amount of conditions.
card types
characters
representing characters anime , manga, there must @ least 4 of them in deck. 4 selected cards start on field while others (if there any) stay in deck. characters have team symbol; if there @ least 3 characters same team symbol on field, player can use special bonus attributed team. each card has defense score, @ least 1 attack, , alignment (hero or villain). have effects can used @ various steps.
techniques
each technique card single attack player s character can use during attack step.
items
items boost character s attack or defense power, put player s opponent @ disadvantage, or aid player in other way, such drawing additional cards or changing player s characters positions in match slots.
events
representing plot twists in anime, event cards perform wide variety of things. played , used during main step, unless stated otherwise on card.
field
the playing field has 9 places cards , spirit energy tracker on each side.
on leftmost side arena, fighting characters placed opposite each other. attached item cards placed on lower-left of character, , techniques on lower-right.
to right of arena deck , discard pile, , placed in line going left-to-right 3 (or four) other characters. (this called sideline.) above sideline spirit energy tracker, 0 through 10 printed on game mat. included each starter deck cardboard counter used mark level player s spirit energy is, sort of counter (coins, pebbles, etc.) can used.
setup
the player , opponent start game 0 spirit energy. player selects 4 characters deck , chooses 1 place in arena section of field; 1 fight first match. other 3 placed face-down in line right of deck , discard, character fight next leftmost. once character cards of both players have been placed, player turns them right-side up.
the player should shuffle deck , place on field, flip coin determine goes first. both players draw 4 cards top of decks.
step 1: draw
any cards effects draw: can used during step.
step 2: main
the player may take of these actions during step:
place 5th character card hand onto last unoccupied match slot. (there 4 match slots, if player has more 5 characters in deck, should choose fifth fighter carefully.)
attach item hand 1 of characters.
attach technique hand 1 of characters.
play event hand.
use effect card in play can used during step. (that is, starts main: )
alternatively, player may nothing @ all, , go straight attack step.
if card player attaching fighter has 1 or more spirit energy icons on it, must spend number of spirit energy , lower tracker accordingly. however, when player attaches card character on sideline, should place facedown under character , therefore not pay costs. time player pay costs when attached cards flipped face-up on either sidelines or while entering arena. if costs cannot paid, card must discarded.
step 3: attack
the player uses 1 attack during step. attacks done in order, prevent confusion:
once character has taken 4 points of damage (thus returning original position), both fighters moved off main playing field, , winner placed face-up , loser face-down. cards attached them discarded. next-in-line in match slots moved arena, attached cards flipped face-up , costs cards paid now.
