the 200-acre (0.81 km) st. bede campus includes school, attached monastery, church, football field stands, baseball field stands, basketball stadium/theater, saint bede abbey press building, boarding houses, , lots of open space, including apple orchard.
facility
the school five-level brick building dozens of classrooms , offices. building can perceived in halves, north half containing of classrooms , south half containing of offices.
the main administrative office located on first floor. there computer labs on first , second floors. art department takes of third floor. 2 main science labs , classrooms located on basement level. lockers located on second , basement levels of building. there underground tunnel connects main building gym, physical education classes held.
saint bede abbey
st. bede abbey, attached school, permanent residence of thirty-two monks live according rule of saint benedict. monks, many of whom actively participate in everyday workings of school, follow gospel of christ serving god, church, , community through daily prayer, both communal , private, serious work, quiet reflection, hospitality, , renunciation of marriage, possessions, , pleasure.
the abbey, academy, founded in 1890 group of 6 monks sent st. vincent archabbey in latrobe, pennsylvania spread benedictine tradition. 1910, community of monks had grown large enough become independent st. vincent s , elected first abbot. population of monks peaked in middle of twentieth century, , has since declined current population of 32.
the current abbot philip davey, osb, succeeded former abbot claude peifer, osb, in june 2011. abbot peifer, likewise, succeeded abbot roger corpus, osb, in 2003.
abbey church
the abbey church multi-purpose building containing general assembly area, students chapel, theater/lecture hall, lounge, kitchenette, , conference rooms. students use abbey church eucharistic liturgies, prayer services, penance services, classes, plays, , meetings.
library
the st. bede academy library multilevel facility consisting of 2 large reading rooms on 2 levels joined 4 levels of stacks. theology library consists of upper reading room , top level of stacks. academy library consists of lower reading room , 3 levels of stacks. academy collection totals 20,000 volumes , monastery collection contains 19,000 volumes.
student refectory
the student refectory, located on main floor of school building, provides hot lunch , snack items daily students. students remain on campus during lunchtime. refectory renovated during summer of 1997 restore original tin ceiling had been covered on years. ceiling fan/light fixtures hang provide atmosphere of former days @ academy.
