dark tournament fighting game relies on proprietary combat system. player able move within straight line on 3d arena. purpose of each battle deplete opponent’s health while maintaining one’s own, although participant may win forcing opponent out of ring. each of game’s 25 player characters has specific set of basic punches, kicks, blocks, throws, , combo moves. in addition, meter located below each fighter s health fill exchange hits each other; characters have access powerful “spirit” attacks once meter fills capacity. dark tournament features story mode divided 31 chapters, progressing linearly through plot of manga , anime. mode features different objectives relating narrative. instance, 1 chapter requires player trade blows drunken master chu in match restricts either character moving or dodging. other chapters allow player use multiple characters in battle tag team system.


other, optional gameplay modes include training mode learning each character’s moves; arcade mode, player fights through series of chosen opponents; multiplayer skirmish mode; , token minigame, plays modified version of card game war. initially, 5 characters (yusuke, kuwabara, kurama, hiei, , masked fighter) playable in these modes. however, player advances through story mode, other characters added playable roster, alternate costumes made available, more tokens can used in token game, , 2 modes (survival , dark tournament plus) unlocked.
